FAQ

Welcome to Practical Southern Cooking!

Whether you're cooking for two, trying to stretch a meal into tomorrow’s lunch, or just craving a little Southern comfort without the fuss, you’re in the right place.

This blog is filled with quick, simple, and soul-satisfying recipes made with everyday ingredients, perfect for busy retirees, smaller households, or anyone who wants real food without overcomplicating dinner. From helpful cooking tips to repurposing leftovers, my goal is to make Southern cooking approachable, practical, and delicious.

Here’s how to make the most of this site:

  • Use the search bar to find specific recipes or ingredients.
  • Browse by category (like appetizers, dinner, or side dishes).
  • Don’t miss the “Supper and Then Some” category; it’s full of recipes for leftovers that serve double duty.
  • And if you ever have a question, my inbox is always open!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I print your recipes?

Absolutely! You’ll find a printable recipe card at the bottom of each post. Just click the “Print” button for a clean, easy-to-read version of the recipe; no extra fluff, just the good stuff.

Can I share your recipes on my blog or social media?

I love it when you want to share! Feel free to share one photo and a link to the original recipe post. Please don’t copy and paste the full recipe; it’s protected by copyright, and I put a lot of time and heart into it.

Do you provide nutritional information?

Yes, all of my recipe cards include estimated nutrition info. These are auto-calculated and meant as a helpful guide only. If you have dietary concerns, I recommend double-checking with your own trusted app or source.

Can I substitute [ingredient] in your recipe?

In many cases, yes! Most recipes include substitution tips and variations. If you're still not sure, feel free to contact me; I’ll do my best to help you adjust it to fit your pantry and preferences.

How often will I get emails from you?

I typically send one to two emails a week featuring easy Southern recipes, time-saving tips, and ideas to help you make the most of your meals. You can sign up here if you haven’t already — it’s free and full of flavor!

Can I ask you a cooking question or request a recipe?

I’d love that! Head to my Contact page to send me a note. I personally read every message, though it might take a few days if I’m in the middle of testing a new casserole or wrangling leftovers into something exciting.

What’s the best way to find recipes on your blog?

You can use the search bar at the top of every page to find recipes by name, ingredient, or category. You can also browse by meal type.

Where can I learn more about you?

You can read my full story on the About Me page. But the short version? I’ve been cooking for over 50 years, and nothing brings me more joy than sharing simple Southern recipes and helping folks feel confident in the kitchen.

Do you actually like leftovers?

I love leftovers! Around here, we believe supper should do double duty. That’s why you’ll find plenty of recipes in the “Supper & Then Some” section, dishes designed to stretch into tomorrow’s lunch or reinvented into something totally new. Because in my book, cooking once and eating twice is just plain smart (and delicious).

Do you have a clever leftover idea of your own? I’d love to hear it — drop me a note!
